Restoration of a Victorian Nursing chair

This Victorian Nursing chair needed some TLC due to the rear legs being broken and the seat base split. After repairing the legs and making a new seat base, it needed re-caning, luckily the pattern is a standard 6 weave, so an attempt was made to learn to cane, the result is detailed in these images

First Weave
The first weave the easy one
Third weave
Third weave under way
Fourth Weave
The fourth weave, this is the first true weave
Fifth Weave
The fifth weave and the first diagonal, the pattern starts to emerge

Finally the patten appears fully and the seat is finished

The pegs to hold the cane in place have been inserted

Finished with the edge beading in place and couched.

The Finished Chair, back in use for a few more years
